At extreme astronomical low tides--rare to perhaps 2 a year--many tide pools open up for view for the happy climber. I visited the beach called 1000 Steps Beach in Laguna Beach, California, specifically on a day like that for photos like this. I even found a bright orange sea sponge--to be posted at another time!

1000 Steps Beach in Laguna Beach in California is off of Pacific Coast Highway and at the cross of 9th Avenue. They call it 1000 Steps Beach because once you climb up on the very steep cliff steps, they say you will swear you just climbed 1000 or more steps.
