Description
An all-day hike yielded this amazing photo standing between two vertical walls looking down from where I hiked up from. This place is definitely not for the faint of heart... This is looking back to see where I came from. As you can see, the space between walls is VERY narrow. Often my Navajo guide and I had to walk on the vertical walls separated by the narrow canyon below us, with one foot on each side of the canyon. This particular point I am standing on a little area built by 3 2x4 wooden bars as a stand that I climbed a completely vertical step ladder to get to and nearly nothing to hold onto. Another thing of interest is how these canyons get washed out by rain. The ladder I had to climb was covered about 5 feet thick with the amazing amount of dead wood and dirt washed against it from the last such rush of waters through it. I was the first visitor since that rain. To see these canyons as a tourist is one thing.... to walk through them and see what nature can do is an entirely different experience. I have taken approximately 100 pictures of this one canyon alone. It is called Mountain Sheep canyon for a good reason and I will forever have a new respect for those sheep!

Wonderful composition, lines, and textures in this awesome shot, Angela! I like the way the slit of blue at the top right is balanced by the loose stones in the bottom left.

Thanks Michael! Another photo of mine from this canyon trip was indeed chosen by National Geographic Daily Dozen and won that week. :)
