Description
The Nutmeg Mannikin, also known as Spice Finch is a rather rare bird. It lives in 3 places in the world according to my book on the birds of the world: Some parts of South East Asia in small populations and a single population in Los Angeles, that sometimes show up in my backyard in Orange County, about 60-100 miles away. I feel very honored when they arrive. I feed birds and they love my sunflower chips for them. They are about the size of a small finch--smaller perhaps than the common house finch but their beaks are amazingly strong and bulky, more like those of the gross beak finch. Their colors are amazing. This is a photograph I took in my backyard a couple of years ago.

V. WOW!!! This is an outstanding image of this little bird. The coloring in the bird is nicely complimented by your background. Delightful details! Nice plaement of the bird in the frame.
